How We Tier Rods

We rank rods based on (1) raw catch power, (2) Coins-per-hour multiplier, (3) speed of acquisition (Coins cost vs Gems cost), and (4) impact on progression. S-tier rods are must-buy for any serious player, while D-tier rods are outclassed by cheaper alternatives.

S-Tier Rods (Must-Buy)

  • Premium Rod (Gem-cost) — best Coins-per-hour multiplier in the game
  • Steel Rod (Coin-cost) — best value early-game upgrade
  • Diamond Rod (Gem-cost) — late-game must-have for Ocean zone

A-Tier Rods (Strong Picks)

A-tier rods are strong choices for most players. They typically have one specific use case where they dominate, but aren't universally best.

B-Tier Rods (Situational)

B-tier rods are outclassed in most general play but work well in specific scenarios. For example, some rods give bonus catches in the Pond zone — useful for first-week players, less so after you unlock River.

C & D-Tier Rods (Avoid)

C and D-tier rods are generally outclassed by alternatives at the same price point. We list them here so you know what NOT to buy with your hard-earned Coins/Gems.
