Shogun's Reign Beginner Guide — From Field Hand to Feudal Lord
Shogun's Reign is a slow-burn RPG where you start as a commoner in Edo-period Japan and climb through farming, trading, and social advancement to claim the Shogunate. This guide covers your first 7 days and your first major rank-up decision.
Table of Contents
Your First Day — Starting with Nothing
Every player begins with no Ryō, no land, and no profession. Your first goal is simple: earn your first 100 Ryō through field labor. Look for the rice paddy near the spawn area — it offers the highest Ryō-per-minute for brand new players and has no skill requirement.
Don't spend your first Ryō on cosmetics or food. Save aggressively for your first tool upgrade — the bronze sickle cuts farming time by 25% and pays for itself in under an hour.
First Week Goals
By the end of week 1, you should have: (1) 1,000+ Ryō in savings, (2) a bronze tool of your primary labor, (3) entry into a profession apprenticeship (most common: Farmer, Trader, or Craftsman), and (4) reputation Tier 1 with at least one faction.
- Days 1-2: Rice paddy farming for first 500 Ryō
- Days 3-4: Buy bronze sickle → upgrade to wheat farming for 2x yield
- Days 5-6: Apprentice with a Trader NPC → unlock cart-pushing side income
- Day 7: First land purchase (small plot, 2,000 Ryō) → unlocks passive rice income
Your First Major Rank Decision
Around Day 10-14, you'll be offered a rank-up choice between the Merchant path (faster Ryō, slower rank) and the Warrior path (faster rank, requires combat training). There's no wrong answer — Merchant is optimal for pure economy climb, Warrior is optimal for PvP-leaning players. Choose based on your preferred playstyle.
