Profession Tier Overview
Professions in Shogun's Reign fall into three categories: Producer (farm, fish, mine), Crafter (blacksmith, carpenter, weaver), and Service (merchant, innkeeper, entertainer). Producer professions scale linearly with land; Crafter professions unlock at Tier 2 reputation and have the highest Ryō/hour ceiling; Service professions offer the fastest early-game Ryō but plateau at mid-game.
S-Tier — Best for End-Game
Merchant Master and Master Blacksmith dominate the late-game economy. They unlock the highest Ryō/hour routes (5,000+ Ryō/hour at max tier) and contribute the most influence toward the Shogunate claim.
- Merchant Master — Highest Ryō scaling, route-trading unlocks
- Master Blacksmith — Best weapon/armor production for Warrior path
- Master Cartographer — Unlocks dangerous-road shortcuts for high-tier land
A-Tier — Strong Mid-Game Picks
Wealthy Landowner and Innkeeper are excellent mid-game choices. They offer 2,500-3,500 Ryō/hour at peak and are easier to unlock than S-tier professions.
B-Tier — Solid Early-Game Foundations
Farmer, Fisher, and Weaver form the bread-and-butter economy. Every player should master at least one before pivoting to A or S-tier. These professions plateau around 1,500 Ryō/hour at max tier.
